Symptoms of a failed septic system vary from surfacing effluent in the area of the disposal field, surfacing effluent over the septic tank, strong odors, green lush grass over the disposal field, or backed up plumbing and drains.
No, septic systems failures can be attributed to several factors that include Root Intrusion, Biomat Formation, or incorrect installation of the failing leach field that can be corrected. We have the expertise to properly identify the cause of the failure and provide solutions that will save you money!
Biomat is the natural slime formed by anaerobic bacteria and in most cases is healthy to providing proper treatment of septic effluent. However over time the slime continues to thicken and become more and more restrictive until the water load from the home can no longer percolate into the nearby soils at a rate equal to the incoming water load. When this happens it can cause sewage backups and environmental contamination. It is important to address any issues as soon as possible to prevent further damage and potential health hazards.
We have tested many so called solutions to Biomat clogging in the septic leach field. We found most of the solutions to be "snake oils" or limited in effectiveness. We have recently tested a new product, SludgeHammer, and have found the results to be highly effective with Biomat remediation. When properly diagnosed, a field that has failed due to Biomat can be rejuvenated. Call us and we can schedule a proper field evaluation to see if Biomat remediation can work for your failing system.
We have tested many so called solutions to Root Intrusion in the septic leach field. As with Biomat, We found most of the solutions to be "snake oils" or limited in effectiveness. The problem with chemical root killers is water flow is restricted and the root killer never makes it to the roots to kill them. As a preventative solution, root killers can be effective at preventing root but ineffective at removing roots once they have found and clogged up your septic field. The only solution is to identify the portion of the septic field clogged with roots and dig them out or by-pass the area with a "bridge" thus rerouting water flow around the root clogged areas. In rare occasions, root intrusion can be extensive enough that remediation is not a option, but most of the time we can find solutions that do not require complete replacement of your septic drain field.
